“I’m still leaning with the champ,” Michael Bisping has his pick for Adesanya vs Vettori 2; thinks Jan set the tone to beat Izzy

Michael Bisping on Israel Adesanya
UFC Middleweight hall of famer Michael Bisping believes that light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has laid out a blueprint to beat middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Michael Bisping believes that Israel exposed himself in his first defeat against Jan at UFC 259 when he moved up a weight class to face the light heavyweight champion. Now ‘The Last Stylebender’ is training to face Marvin Vettori at UFC 263 to defend his title. Bisping thinks Vettori has a reference now to beat Adesanya in his second meeting with the champ. Michael went on the show with The Schmo where he discussed UFC 263.
“For Adesanya, he should go into this fight very confident,” Bisping said (h/t Abhinav Kini of MiddleEasy.com). “Of course, he’s already beaten Marvin Vettori. Both of them have got better, I think Vettori has got way better. I think for Marvin Vettori, seeing the way Blachowicz beat him has set the tone for how to beat him.” Vettori’s way to go should be taking down Adesanya after Jan’s success to try and eliminate any chances of a standup fight with Izzy.
“I think the way to beat Adesanya obviously takes him down, but most people take him down against the fence. It’s easier [to defend] because you can lean against the wall or the fence and if you get taken down, you can use that to stand back up. What we saw against Blachowicz was Blachowicz took him down in the middle of the Octagon. The reason that’s more beneficial is you got to be a better wrestler to penetrate and drive through and put them down,” said ‘The Count’.
“To take someone down in the middle is harder but you’ll have more success against Israel is because they haven’t got the fence to lean on — they’re just going to fall over. And then when you get him down, it’s actually way harder to get back to your feet if you’re in the middle of the Octagon because you’ve got nothing to lean on.”

Despite thinking that Marvin Vettori has a better chance of beating Izzy this time, Bisping still is leaning towards the champ because he thinks he is better. Vettori definitely has gotten better over the years and it is not the same as the previous outing. Michael believes that Adesanya will be prepared for any kind of wrestling that Vettori brings to the octagon.
“I think Vettori saw that and I think he’ll come with a heavy wrestling-oriented game plan like he did against Kevin Holland, but you still got to side with the champ. I’m still leaning with the champ. He’s the champ for a reason,” Bisping said. Adesanya vs Vettori 2 takes place on June 12, at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The UFC 263 card is packed and it will be one hell of an event.
