“He looked terrified,” Michael Bisping reveals why Derrick Lewis lost to Ciryl Gane at UFC 265
Michael Bisping recaps Derrick Lewis vs Ciryl Gane
Derrick Lewis will be headlining the final event of UFC in 2021. Ahead of this bout, UFC commentator and analyst Michael Bisping recaps the disappointing loss of The Black Beast against UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane at UFC 265.
Michael Bisping always delivers with his YouTube channel just like he does with the mic during fights outside the octagon. In his recent video, Bisping previews the upcoming fight of Derrick Lewis vs Chris Daukaus at UFC Vegas 45. The fight is set to happen this weekend at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Derrick Lewis is coming into this fight from a very devastating loss in many aspects. Lewis was scheduled to face rising heavyweight star Ciryl Gane at the main event UFC 265 in front of his home fans in Houston. Both the heavyweights fought to win the interim heavyweight belt and there was a lot riding on Lewis to please his fans in the arena. Lewis lost via TKO in the third round as Gane went on to become the champ.
In the recent video, Michael Bisping talks about what went wrong with Lewis in the biggest fight of his career and what factors caused him to fail. “When he walked out in Houston, against Ciryl Gane, you could see the look in his eyes….he looked terrified,” said Bisping.
“He was never that guy,” Michael Bisping on Derrick Lewis performing under pressure
Michael Bisping believes one of the main reasons why Lewis could not perform was because, unlike many fighters in the UFC, Lewis was never accustomed to a lot of amateur competitions. Another main reason why Bisping believes the pressure got to Lewis was the level of significance that day on August 7th held for the Black Beast.
Lewis was in prison and UFC 265 marked 13 years to the day of the fighter getting out of prison. “That was 13 years to the day of him getting out of prison and that messed with him as well. Just thinking about where his life had taken him, therefore applied extra pressure that he did not need. I said ‘Man this guy is nervous.'”
