Derrick Lewis won’t be following the “shoey” trend like his opponent for UFC 271 Tai Tuivasa as he feels more rebuked by the celebration than enjoy it.

Derrick Lewis vs. Tai Tuivasa is the co-main event for UFC 271 taking place at the Toyota Center, Houston and this fight isn’t a grudge match but rather a fight with mutual respect for the two.

Tuivasa spoke about how much of a fan he is of “The Black Beast” and said that fighting him inside the octagon is a huge honor.

Recently speaking to Fox Sports Australia, Derrick Lewis was asked if he would be following the trend started by Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo who even inspired Tai Tuivasa to follow suit as he made use of the “shoey” right after his TKO win over Greg Hardy at UFC 264.

Yeah, he’s good man. I like him. I like Tai. Um, and I really appreciate him knocking out Greg Hardy like he did the last fight, cause Greg was talking a lot of trash that week. Um, so I appreciate it but I just don’t like the shoe – break the beer-drinking out of the shoe all that. What y’all do out there, I don’t like all that, that’s nasty. My feet smell cheesy.”

‘Bam Bam’ was then later interviewed and asked his thoughts on Lewis to whom he said was a big fan of and that knowing both of them would be crowd favorites he expects it to be a nail-biter of a fight.

What can you expect from the Derrick Lewis vs. Tai Tuivasa fight?

After a loss to Ciryl Gane his interim heavyweight title bout at UFC 265, ‘The Black Beast’ bounced back to winning ways with a devastating first-round knockout victory over rising heavyweight star Chris Daukaus and thereby made UFC history for having achieved the most knockouts as he sits pretty at the top with 12 KOs over his 17 victories.

The No. 3 ranked Lewis in his bid to obtain another shot at the heavyweight title will be taking on No. 11th ranked Tai Tuivasa at UFC 271.

Tai Tuivasa on the other hand has been on a four-fight win streak and looks to be devastating as ever winning his last four fights by knockout and if he does get the victory over Derrick Lewis, you can expect him to easily breach the Top 10 of the 185-pound division and cement his position as a strong contender for the UFC heavyweight title.

It’s a fight that is guaranteed to bring in an immense fanbase and lots of attention with both fighters looking better than ever as we are set for another cracker of a bout.

Don’t miss out on the co-main event of UFC 271: Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker taking place on 12th February Saturday night.
