The MMA community wants to see Jon Jones take on Stipe Miocic for his first heavyweight title defense. The UFC heavyweight champion believes that defeating Stipe can complete his legacy as the GOAT. However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen does think the super fight between Jones and Stipe will happen.
According to his analysis, Chael Sonnen believes that Jones’s next opponent might change. Miocic has not fought for two years, which let Sergei Pavlovich climb his way to a potential title shot. Fight fans would like to see Pavlovich fight Jon Jones rather than Stipe. Pavlovich is a knockout artist and has won his last six bouts in the first round.
Sonnen went on the talk show of Brendan Schaub to discuss the major headlines of the combat sports world. Sonnen said, “I’m hearing strong rumors that Stipe and Jones are going to go up in flames and that Sergei Pavlovich vs. Jones is happening in August. I’m hearing strong rumors about that. It’s strong enough that I can say it’s at least being pursued.”
Stipe Miocic is the greatest heavyweight champion in the UFC. He has been waiting for a title match since he lost against Francis Ngannou in 2021. Francis Ngannou knocked out Stipe Miocic in the second round to win the heavyweight title. Ngannou vacated the title a year later, and the UFC booked a Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane fight for the vacant belt. The UFC also stated that Stipe will fight the winner of the vacant belt. However, it may not happen after all, due to the fight delay.

Chael Sonnen, the retired fighter turned analyst, claimed Jon Jones would fight at the UFC 293 event. According to Sonnen, Dana White has not revealed the UFC 293 fight card because he is planning to make something big for the fans. Australia is the venue for the UFC 293 event.
Sonnen said, “If you did have partners in Australia… You promised them Izzy [Israel Adesanya]… ‘Look I [the UFC] can’t deliver but I can bring you Jones and Pavlovich, are we good?’ They would probably say, ‘Yeah, we’re good.'”
Francis Ngannou’s exit has caused chaos in the MMA world. ‘The Predator’ was expected to defend the UFC title against returning Jon Jones. But after an injury at the start of the 2022 season, they didn’t let Francis compete again, and in the meantime, his contract expired. And Now Sergei Pavlovich and Stipe Miocic’s names are getting lined up.
