From Ronda Rousey teaming up with The Rock to Becky Lynch teaming up with Conor McGregor, many have knocked down the ‘forbidden door’ to show up at different promotions in the combat sports or sports entertainment industry.
There are many instances UFC and WWE had crossed paths in past. But which one are those that left the jaws of the fans open? Let’s look at 5 instances when UFC and WWE did crossover which left the fans speechless.
Colby Covington uses Kurt Angle’s Music
Back in 2019, when Covington came out using the WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle‘s entrance theme, fans appreciated the maneuver and was being received a huge pop. Fans accepted the fact that this theme is a perfect fit for the ‘Chaos’ and his character. Covington explained how he approached the WWE Hall of Famer for permission to use his theme and how Angle granted the wish and praised the concept.
An altercation between Undertaker and Brock Lesnar
Just 4 years before the end of The Undertaker‘s legendary Wrestlemania winning streak, broken by Brock Lesnar himself, in 2010, there was a brief altercation between ‘The Phenom’ and ‘The Beast’. This happened after the fight between Brock Lesnar and Cain Valesquez for the UFC heavyweight championship which ‘The Beast’ lost eventually. After the fight ‘The Phenom’ passed a comment, more likely a challenge while Brock Lesnar was walking past him. This eventually led up to their famous Wrestlemania 30 match.
Cain Valesquez confronted Brock Lesnar inside a WWE ring
Back in 2010 when Brock Lesnar lost his UFC heavyweight championship against Cain Valesquez, this was the first time they were coming face to face against each other. It was on a Smackdown episode when he came out as an aid to Rey Mysterio who was having an ongoing storyline with Brock Lesnar. When Valesquez made his debut in WWE, it shocked so many fans and critics even left Brock Lesnar astonished in the middle of the ring. Later they had a fight in Crown Jewels PPV which has negative feedback from the critics.
Israel Adesanya coming out in an ‘Undertaker’ way
The 33-year-old, Israel Adesanya shocked everyone when he came out wearing The Undertaker’s famous hat, carrying his signature ‘urn’ and in The Undertaker’s iconic theme ‘Rest In Peace’ at UFC 276 to defend his title against Jared Cannonier. This led so many WWE personalities like Triple H, Vince McMahon, and Stephenie McMahon to react and appreciate. Even The Undertaker himself approved “The Last Stylebender’s” actions.
Daniel Cormier to serve as a referee in the match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle
The most recent addition to the WWE X UFC crossover is Daniel Cormier, set to serve as a referee in the match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle.
The match will not be a traditional wrestling match and the ring design will be a bit unfamiliar. The ring will be surrounded by cages and there won’t be any ropes to rebound. The match stipulation is called ‘Fight Pit’ and it will be something like a ‘Steel-Cage’ match with a hint of MMA into it. This is not the first time that WWE is holding a ‘Fight Pit’ Match. WWE has already done a Fight Pit match back in 2020 which featured Matt riddle and his long-time tag team partner Timothy Thatcher.
Getting Cormier as a referee in WWE will do a favor to their ratings and demography as Cormier alone is a huge draw, whether as a fighter or as a referee.
