Stephen Thompson is waiting for the UFC and Dana White to pay him any form of compensation after his fight at UFC 291 got canceled. Thompson was supposed to make his comeback against Michel Pereira last Saturday at UFC 291, but the bout was called off the day before because Pereira missed the welterweight cutoff by three pounds. After that, Thompson made the decision not to compete against Pereira at catchweight.

Although Thompson completed a full training camp, fulfilled his commitments throughout fight week, and made weight on Friday morning, he was not paid. Even if that is still the case, Thompson told Ariel Helwani a few days later that he is confident the UFC would acknowledge his efforts.

He said: “At this point, my management is talking to the UFC, nothing yet. I know Dana White is on vacation. The guy is a workaholic, so well deserved, but I feel like the UFC is going to do right by me. I’ve done everything that I’m supposed to do, and I tried to be as honorable as possible when it comes down to signing my contract and abiding by it.”  at the MMA hour.

Stephen Thompson further added: “I’ve done what they wanted of me, and I feel like they’re going to do right by me. Things are still in talks. I think they’re waiting for Dana White to come back from his vacation, and we’ll go from there.” ‘Wonderboy’ believes that Dana White will not treat him unfairly and will pay him what he deserves for going through the fight camp.

The ‘Wonderboy’ was fairly disappointed for not being able to fight at UFC 291 and has given his opinion on fighters who don’t take weight cuts seriously. In the same interview with Ariel Helwani, Thompson mentioned that anyone in the welterweight division who wants to fight him should make the weight.

He said: “I want everybody to know right now in the 170 [pound] division that if you’re going to fight me now, you better be on weight or it’s not going to happen. I’m in a situation now, in a place in my career, where I want to fight fairly, man. Don’t want to play any games. I want these guys to take it seriously. I want these guys to do it honorably.”

Thompson revealed that fighters should take this more seriously and should not play any type of game. According to the UFC veteran, making weight and being disciplined are important in mixed martial arts.
