Alex Pereira is one of the most intriguing characters in the UFC. Poatan is a former UFC middleweight champion who became champion with just four fights. His professional MMA record currently boasts eight wins and two losses. Pereira was also a former Glory Kickboxing champion. His and Israel Adesanya‘s long-drawn rivalry extended from his Glory days.
Alex Pereira is known for his calm, collected, and stoic nature. He is no entertainer outside the octagon. However, the internet is filled with clips of the former champion being goofy and a prankster. One such latest Instagram story showed Pereira and his wife driving in the rain with a rather unexpected object that they brought along. Back in the back seat was one ‘stone-faced statue’ tucked and secured with a seat belt. He wrote in the caption: ” Tony has no school today,” referring to the stone-faced statue.

Despite the occasional quirky moments, Alex Pereira is a serious MMA fighter dedicated to his craft. Poatan transitioned to the UFC in 2021. And in 2022, he defeated Israel Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title. He also fought and defeated the current middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, at UFC 276 before his title fight. Pereira quickly became a fan favorite and scaled the charts to position himself at the top of the UFC rankings. However, Alex Pereira’s title reign was short-lived.
Israel Adesanya soon came back for his title. The duo headlined the main event at UFC 287. Adesanya finally defeated his long-drawn rival and knocked him down in the second round. The bout was a highly spectated event whose clips went viral on social media.
