“Eating whatever I want,” Alex Pereira offers glimpse into diet ahead of Jan Blachowicz’s epic showdown
Alex Pereira had a tough cut to reach the middleweight limit. However, it looks like the Brazilian knockout artist has a better cut to the light heavyweight division.

Former middleweight champion and decorated kickboxer Alex Pereira will make his light heavyweight debut at UFC 291. He will fight Jan Blachowicz in a possible title eliminator bout in Salt Lake City. The weight cut to 185 pounds may have affected Pereira heading into the bout against Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. Hence, he skipped a trilogy fight with Adesanya in favor of a move to the 205-pound division.
During the UFC 291 fight week, Alex Pereira revealed his diet plans for his light heavyweight debut. The UFC 291 Embedded Vlog series spotted Pereira with Glover Texeira. Texeira grilled some meat for “Poatan.” Pereira talked about his health on the Vlog. He said, “I’m eating very well now. I had no restrictions, and I can eat whatever I want.” It appears Poatan is not worried about the weight cut to 205 pounds as he continues to eat rather than diet.
Ever since Jamahal Hill vacated the title, contenders in the light heavyweight division have been stalking the title. Jiri Prochazka and Magomed Ankalaev are major contenders to compete in a possible title bout. However, Jan and Alex remain in contention as well. If Pereira can defeat Blachowicz, he could fight for the title in the not-too-distant future.
Pereira will have the disadvantage of wrestling in the bout against Jan. Israel Adesanya looked like a Dagestani wrestler when fighting Pereira. Hence, a bigger Blachowicz could potentially trouble Pereira with his wrestling. Pereira should try to keep the fight standing and land his scary left hook for the knockout. Fight fans are excited about the bout and remain interested in how Pereira could look as a 205-pounder.

Alex Pereira addresses the question of not resting well after knockout loss
In less than four months after getting knocked out at UFC 287, Alex Pereira will return to compete in the UFC. Many people have expressed their concern about the Poatan’s quick return after the loss. Ahead of his fight against Blachowicz, Pereira addressed the question of a quick turnaround.
Pereira said, “I think if [Blachowicz] lands a hand and I go down, it’s because I was supposed to go down, not because I got weak from the punch Adesanya landed” (H/T Bloody Elbow). It appears Pereira remains calm about his quick turnaround.
Some fighters take time off before returning from a devastating knockout loss. However, Pereira chose a quick turnaround rather than sitting out to recover properly. Only time will tell if Pereira made the right decision in choosing to fight at UFC 291.
