The highly anticipated UFC 300 main event between Alex Pereira and challenger Jamahal Hill draws nearer every day. The champion has weighed in on his opponent’s skill level. It seems “Poatan” has a healthy respect for his past opponent, Jiri Procazka, over Jamahal Hill.

In a recent interview, Alex Pereira acknowledged that Hill was a formidable fighter. However, he thought that Jiri Prochazka may just be the more skilled of the two. That’s high praise coming from the reigning light heavyweight king. 

I think Jiri is more accurate and precise [with] his strikes. The way that he flows, the way that he fights. Jamahal Hill has a little more [of an] advantage [with] his power, which makes him dangerous, too, because nobody wants to take a hit and go down in the fight. But when you talk about skill level, Jiri Prochazka is superior.

Pereira quickly pointed out that Jamahal Hill has tremendous knockout power. Hill has proven to be a bonafide knockout artist, with 7 of his 12 professional wins coming from brutal KO or TKO. Pereira may see Jiri Prochazka as the more skilled of the two. Nevertheless, he knows better than to underestimate Hill’s sheer power.

It’s a clash of styles, with fans drooling at the prospect of a potential highlight-reel finish. The chances of a finish in this fight remain highly likely. Hill ain’t gonna be afraid of Pereira’s striking and Pereira’s gonna fight his fight… He’s [Pereira] is gonna come forward, put himself in positions where Hill’s gonna feel like he can hit him... That is the way Pereira likes to fight… I’m gonna have to lean more towards Pereira.
