Alex Pereira has put an end to the speculations surrounding a potential trilogy fight with Israel Adesanya. Poatan clarified that if it happens, it will be at middleweight. Pereira made an impressive debut in the light heavyweight category, securing a victory against Jan Blachowicz during UFC 291’s co-main event. He now sets his sights on competing for the vacant 205-pound title in his upcoming fights.
Addressing the possibility of a third encounter with Israel Adesanya, Pereira shared that he plans to return to middleweight to settle the score. He revealed that he took a break from the difficult weight cuts. However ‘Poatan’ definitely has plans to compete in the middleweight division once more. “I want to do one more fight at light heavyweight… trilogy at middleweight,” Pereira said.
Before the post-fight press conference at UFC 291, Pereira expressed his intentions to MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter. He highlighted the need for one more fight in the light heavyweight division before making his comeback to middleweight, where he believes they are currently tied at 1-1.
Pereira acknowledged that making the 185-pound limit was challenging. However, he assured everyone that middleweight is still part of his future plans. Despite the difficulties he faced during the weight cuts, Pereira stated that he feels recharged and energized after his recent light-heavyweight bout. The weight cut at light heavyweight is only 20 to 30 percent of what he had previously experienced.
