Last year, fans worldwide were surprised to learn that Volkanovski and Murray had a close friendship. They went on a promotional trip to Australia, where Murray provided Alexander Volkanovski with advice on refining his shooting. Subsequently, Volkanovski gave Murray a lesson on MMA, and the clips remain available on Volkanovski’s YouTube channel. Furthermore, Volkanovsky and Murray recently collaborated to create another viral sensation when Volanovski attempted to submit Murray. The video was posted to Volkanovski’s YouTube channel, in which Murray challenged Volanovski by stating, “You try to submit me in under a minute.”
During the discussion, the two athletes discussed what was allowed and what wasn’t, and Volkanovski smiled in the video. However, Murray did not attempt any submissions and was merely trying to survive the one minute of the grappling match. In a shocking turn of events, the basketball player got off to a great start early in the grappling match.
Eventually, Volkanovski made it to the back of Murray, even though Murray could stand his ground initially. Furthermore, it was clear that Volkanovski was playing around with his friend and wasn’t serious. Towards the end, Volkanovski could have ended the match with a guillotine right, but it ended in a draw.
Israel Adesanya calls Alexander Volkanovski the GOAT
Volkanovski has been a dominant force in all 26 fights in the UFC and has only lost twice. Furthermore, Volkanovski last fought Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290, where he successfully defended his featherweight title by winning the fight.
Subsequently, the match was important for Volkanovski because he wanted to unify the 145-pound title and remind the featherweights who the champion was. In Round 3, Volkanovski defeated Rodriguez via TKO. After his performance, Israel Adesanya called Volkanovski the “goat” and said nobody was greater than him. In addition, Volkanovski was able to unify the featherweight titles after defeating interim champion Rodriguez, and Volkanovski now wants to be the champion of two divisions.
However, his last attempt to secure this goal failed after he lost to Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. After his win over Rodriguez, many predict that featherweight GOAT will have a rematch against Makhachev next.
