“Charles or whoever gets the belt”- Alexander Volkanovski confirms his decision of moving up after dismantling Max Holloway at UFC 276

Max Holloway and UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski squared off a third time on Saturday at UFC 276. For the first time ever, the co-main event of UFC 276 included top pound-for-pound fighters, and Holloway, who is now 0-2 in the standings, has become the first UFC athlete to do so in a trilogy.
Max said during The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, “I’m a champion. I’ve been telling everybody that. I’m going to be a champion and I was a champion from since when I freakin’ got into the UFC. That’s just the way that you’ve got to carry yourself. If you don’t carry yourself that way, then why are you fighting? Are you fighting to be the second-best in the world? That makes no sense.”

In the third fight of their highly anticipated trilogy, Volkanovski defeated Holloway by unanimous decision to successfully defend his featherweight title. The co-main event of UFC 276 at T-Mobile Arena featured the 145-pound title fight, which was unanimously awarded a 50-45 victory to the champion.
The five-round match on Saturday produced the trilogy’s most conclusive outcome by a wide margin. At UFC 245 in December 2019 and UFC 251 in July 2020, the two first crossed paths. Both fights were decided in Volkanovski’s favour, but they were incredibly close, especially the rematch. Some athletes still believed Holloway to be the legitimate featherweight champion right after the rematch, but that belief has long since vanished with UFC 276.
In the post-fight interview he stated,” That intensity he brought, that we both had the last few days, I needed it. I really needed it. I had to get him out of here. I knew I’m the best. I needed to remind myself.”
He then called out the lightweight champion in order to fulfil his endeavour of being the “CHAMP-CHAMP” He stated, “Charles [Oliveira], whoever gets that belt, no disrespect, I’d love to move up, get that double champ status.” He also stated, “I just proved to you that I want to be in this octagon as much as possible. I want to be busy. I want to move up and go for the double champ and I’ll keep two divisions busy.”
