UFC 294 features the title rematch between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski. The first fight ended in a victory for Makhachev, but it became controversial as many thought Volk did enough to win it. The rematch provides Volk with another opportunity to become a double champion. The UFC 294 pre-fight press conference saw Volkanovski verbally destroying Makhachev in Abu Dhabi.
A journalist brought up the rehydration question that made Alexander Volkanovski respond with fire. He said, “Why you’re telling me that he had been rehydrating for 30 something hours isn’t enough? He’s gonna be stronger with 40 hours. Is that what we relying on over here. You don’t back your skills! I don’t get it. I backed my skills that is the difference.”
During their fight at UFC 284, Islam Makhachev only got around 30 hours to rehydrate after the weight cut. However, in Abu Dhabi, he will get more than 40 hours. Islam Makhachev has fought three times in Abu Dhabi. He has won all three times with dominant performances. Volkanovski must bring his A-game to secure victory over the Dagestani champion.
Alexander Volkanovski did not have a proper training camp. A training camp will help fighters lose weight before cutting it down during the fight week. However, Volk has the odds stacked against him, and he will need luck on his side to defeat Islam Makhachev. The anticipation of how it will all go down at UFC 294 has made the PPV card exciting for the fans.
