Initially, Charles Oliveira defeated Beneil Dariush at UFC 289 to earn the title shot against Makhachev. However, he pulled out due to an injury, leading Volkanovksi to take his spot. Oliveira will have to wait another day to fight for the title. On the other hand, Volkanovski will get another chance at his quest to become a double champion.

Khamzat Chimaev will take on Kamaru Usman in a middleweight three-round bout in the co-main event. Just like Oliveira, Paulo Costa was supposed to fight Chimaev, and an injury forced him out. Kamaru Usman took the fight on short notice to feature on the card. Dana White confirmed that the winner would receive the middleweight title shot.

Light heavyweight contenders Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker will compete on the UFC 294 main card. Ankalaev and Walker could find themselves near a title shot with a win. Rising star Muhammad Mokaev will take on veteran Tim Elliott. Mokaev aims to finish Elliott to climb the rankings in the featherweight division. Indian MMA star Anshul Jubli will make his UFC debut. The Indian fanbase will look forward to the highly touted prospect in Jubli.
