Alexander Volkanovski is currently holding the UFC Featherweight championship. Volkanovski sits at the top of the division having annihilated every fighter that challenged him. He has previously expressed his desire to move up the weights in search of a new challenge. Hence, it’s no secret that Volkanovski wants to compete for the lightweight championship to become a double champion, a feat accomplished by only a few.

Makhachev has shown some concern regarding Oliveira’s arrival at the venue. Taking it to Twitter, Makhachev pointed at an article that told Charles Oliveira would be arriving in Abu Dhabi 20 days ahead of the clash. Pointing at the article Makhachev tweeted, “2 weeks before the fight, Charles and his team not in Abu Dhabi yet., should I start worrying?”.

Without anyone’s surprise, Alexander Volkanovski wasted no time commenting on it and expressed his desire to fill in if Oliveira doesn’t show up. Reacting to the tweet Volkanovski commented, “Don’t worry brother, I’ll be there”.  Unfortunately, Alexander Volkanovski can’t fulfill his desires yet as Beneil Dariush is already chosen as the backup fighter for the fight at UFC 280.

Alexander Volkanovski’s next fight has not been declared officially amid growing speculation regarding Volkanovski being the next challenger for the lightweight championship. So he might face the winner of the match between Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev.

Alexander Volkanovski has been on a winning streak ever since he joined UFC. His most recent victory came against Max Halloway UFC 276, where he defended his Featherweight championship. Talking about the Australian’s domination in the featherweight division, White revealed details on Alexander Volkanovski’s plans to move up the weights and challenge for the lightweight championship.

Speaking to Mac life, Dana said, “So, Volkanovski is one of those guys who has earned the respect of everybody, I would say, by now. You know, he’s got this Holloway fight that probably makes sense for him to do this and put this behind him. Then you don’t have to hear about it anymore, and that guy can do whatever he wants to do. I mean, if he wants to move up and challenge somebody at ’55 or whatever he wants to do, I’m down for whatever he wants.”
