“They think they’re the only guys that’s wrestled” – Alexander Volkanovski jokes about Khabib Nurmagomedov’s confidence ahead of Islam Makhachev fight

Alexander Volkanovski believes Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev are underestimating the featherweight champion. The P4P king can’t wait to surprise the world after beating Makhachev in the upcoming title fight.

Though not official, it is almost certain that Islam Makhachev will be defending his lightweight belt against Alexander Volkanovski at the UFC card to be held in Perth. Following UFC 280, Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed how he thinks his teammate, Makhachev will tackle the featherweight champion and defend the lightweight belt.

Volkanovski, who recently was interviewed by Submission Radio finds it funny that the Dagestani team is underestimating the pound-for-pound king. “It’s funny because they think they are the only guys that have wrestled or something. Like we haven’t been training wrestling,” said Volkanovski in his interview. Team Khabib believes Makhachev’s grappling and wrestling skills will be too much for the 145-pound champ to handle.

“Don’t think I am going to be worried about THAT takedown. I am going to train for that takedown, I’m going to get my instincts and reactions on point. But when I’m on my feet, I’m just focusing on landing big,” said Volkanovski ahead of his fight against Makhachev.

Khabib Nurmagomedov reveals Islam Makhachev’s game plan to Alexander Volkanovski beforehand

After UFC 280, Nurmagomedov spoke to Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA and revealed how Makhachev is going to beat Volkanovski in their upcoming title fight. Khabib said he is willing to give the Australian fighter time to prepare for the exact moves Islam is going to pull off in the octagon and is still confident Volkanovski won’t be able to stop it.

“Volkanovski? Clinch. Lot of knees, he’s [Islam Makhachev] going to hit a lot of knees. Take his energy. Take him down and he is going to choke him out. This is what I think. This is the way I see how the fight is going to go,” said Nurmagomedov confidently in the ESPN MMA interview.
