Alexander Volkanovski‘s UFC career took a dark turn recently. Volkanovski made a video talking about his future plans after recently losing his UFC featherweight title. Spaniard Ilia Topuria knocked Volk out cold at UFC 298. Here is what happened:

Alexander Volkanovski recently uploaded a video on his YouTube channel. There, he addressed his recent title loss and talked about getting the title back. This is what Alexander Volkanovski said:

Mark my words. I'm getting that belt back. I'm gonna do everything in my power. Obviously, I told you I'm gonna have some rest. But when I do decide to get back in there or when we do have a date, I'm gonna do everything in my power to make sure I get that belt back here, to me and my family.

Volkanovski also said that he has always fought for his family, supporters, and Australia. But this time, Volk would fight for him because he wanted the featherweight belt back. Ilia Topuria might move on to other contenders considering Volk might take a while to rest up and heal from the knockout.

Topuria’s victory ended Volkanovski’s four-year reign as the 145-pound division champion. After searching for openings in the first round, Topuria took advantage of one at close range and landed the perfect right hand that knocked Volkanovski out. The Australian fighter could return at the end of this year or early next year. During his time away from the sport, Volk needs to figure out how to combat the power of Topuria.

Alexander Volkanovski talks knockout loss against Islam Makhachev affecting UFC 298 fight against Ilia Topuria

Alexander Volkanovski said the knockout loss to Islam Makhachev made him defensive in his fight against Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski said he simply did not use his fighting style. Volkanovski also said he intended to avoid a “quick turnaround” like the one he took with the Makhachev fight. Volkanovski won the opening round against Topuria, but Topuria’s knockout power in the second round destroyed his momentum. A knockout loss can forever change a fighter and Volk became the latest victim.

Alexander Volkanovski has suffered back-to-back KO losses to Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria within four months. Makhachev and Volkanovski fought at UFC 294, which was a lightweight title fight. Makhachev had brutally knocked Volkanovski out with a head kick right in the first round. In the meantime, Volk needs to rest up more than anything at this point.
