It is very hard to not respect an opponent you have fought thrice inside the octagon. Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway might have gone into fights with the intention of killing each other but after the trilogy fight, there is nothing but respect between the two fighters.

Alexander Volknaovski and Max Holloway are two of the greatest featherweights of all time. Fight fans all around the world are very lucky to witness two all-timers fight each other not once, but thrice inside the octagon. It is not often that you get to see two pound-for-pound bests fight fifteen rounds and not show one moment of dullness.

Recently, the world might have witnessed probably the last time Volkanovski and Holloway ever meet each other inside the octagon. At UFC 276, Alex ended his rivalry with a statement-making, dominant win against Holloway. Volkanovski can proudly say that he has three career wins over an all-time great. This just speaks to the level the Australian champion is at right now. Yesterday, Volkanovski posted a picture on Instagram to show respect to his peer and rival despite all the beatings they have inflicted upon each other inside the octagon.

After the win against Holloway, Volknaovski just proved to the world that he is levels above anyone in the featherweight division and there is no real challenge for him in the 145-pound division. Alexander has been calling for a shot at the double champ status for quite some time now and now the world unanimously can agree that the Aussie has proven himself to earn a title shot for the lightweight belt.

It is almost certain that we will see Volknovski fighting for the lightweight belt next and look to earn himself the champ-champ status. He has already called for the winner of Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev which is considered to be the next lightweight title fight. Volkanovski now also makes a great case to be ranked as the #1 pound-for-pound champion.

As far as the “Blessed” is concerned, it is still uncertain what his next move in the UFC would be. He is in a very weird position right now where he could remain the number one contender forever in the featherweight division or he could seek exciting matchups against some lightweight contenders.
