Alexander Volkanovski is in talks to fight Yair Rodriguez for a title unification bout during the international fight week. While the matchup is being confirmed, the gatekeeper of the featherweight division has claimed another contender.

The contender happens to be Max Holloway who defeated “the Almighty” Arnold Allen via a unanimous decision after a five-round war on Sunday. With this win, Holloway is not counting out on a fourth fight with Volkanovski. However, the UFC featherweight champion seems to be tired of fighting Holloway and wants to focus on his upcoming match and a rematch with Islam Makhachev.

Alexander Volkanovski has fought a total of three times with Max Holloway in the UFC. With Alexander winning all the 3 times he has proved that he is the better fighter of the two. But Holloway is relentless in his pursuit of the featherweight title, defeating every opponent thrown at him. This creates a problem for the champ as he lacks title-shot contenders who are not Max Holloway. Volkanovski in an interview talked about this problem and how he wants Holloway to leave the division along with his plans to rematch Islam Makhachev.

Volkanovski discussed if Arnold Allen had won the fight, he would have something lined up for him after his match with Yair Rodriguez. However, the featherweight champ gave credit where it was due and appreciated Max Holloway for looking better than before. Volkanovski also talked about how, during his last fight with Max Holloway, he asked the fighter to leave the division. “I looked at him and said get out of my division, stop beating up my contenders,” said Volkanovski. Alexander also explained it was hard enough to do a trilogy with Max losing both the fights and finds it hard to see a fourth fight happening.

Volkanovski also thinks that he needs a rematch with Islam Makhachev. Dana White in the past has expressed that a rematch between Islam Makhachev and Volkanovski is possible. If Volkanovski gets the win against Yair Rodriguez, a rematch against Islam might be next. Alexander Volkanovski has his hands full with Yair at the moment, but it’s good to see the Champ still has many things lined up for him in the background.

At UFC Fight Night in Kansas City, Max Holloway showed the world why he is still the top fighter in the featherweight division after Volkanovski. After the end of a five-round war with Arnold Allen, Max Holloway won via unanimous decision. Holloway showed Allen why he is the gatekeeper of the featherweight division. But with his win over Allen, does Max Holloway fight for the title again? The Blessed Express hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a 4th fight.

In an interview leading up to UFC Kansas City, Holloway talked about why he still thinks he can fight Volkanovski. “A lot of people are confused, they’re saying, ‘Oh, we don’t see how you can get an Alex 4, but if… the UFC really felt that way then I think they would’ve forced my hand to go up in a weight class. I believe I’m the best 145lber in the world. I believe I’m the best fighter in the world. That’s the type of mentality you need in this sport, If you’re not thinking that or believing that, then you might as well retire,” said Max Holloway.

Max Holloway does not want to fight Volkanovski anytime soon, as he wants the Korean Zombie as his next opponent. With Alexander Volkanovski set to fight Yair Rodriguez for a title unification bout, will fans see both fighters go at it for the fourth time?
