Reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is willing to give Ilia Topuria a shot for his championship. Topuria recently put on a stellar performance in the main event of his last UFC fight. Josh Emmett was defeated by a unanimous verdict that highlighted Topuria’s superiority in the fight.
Topuria wasted no time in calling for a 145-pound championship bout after his outstanding performance. Volkanovski must first face Yair Rodriguez, the interim champion, in a title unification bout. Only then will Topuria count as a possible opponent. The 26-year-old has announced that he wants Volkanovski to win this fight and become the undisputed champion.
He has even signaled his willingness to fly to Australia to compete against the well-known champion. Ilia Topuria has done enough to get a shot at the championship. Volkanovski, who has already defeated some of the league’s best fighters, is open to the fight. He made it clear during the UFC interview on “DC & RC” with Daniel Cormier and Ryan Clark that he’d rather fight Topuria than a rival.
To compete against new, developing talent, he ignored thoughts of other possible rivals. Although he recognizes Ilia Topuria’s abilities as a fighter, Volkanovski believes he has found ways to weaken the former’s advantages. Although he’s focused on his upcoming fight against Rodriguez, Volkanovski is clearly more interested in taking on the 26-year-old.

The 34-year-old champion expressed confidence that he could defeat the 26-year-old rising star. But Volkanovski refrained from challenging Topuria’s latest triumph. He acknowledged that they could have an interesting fight. Moreover, the Champion expressed his desire for the bout.
But the featherweight champion emphasized his desire to stay active and take on new challenges. Alexander Volkanovski has already defeated the best fighters in his class. He is looking forward to the upcoming fight against Rodriguez and wants to face the talented Ilia Topuria soon after.
Ever since winning the title from Max Holloway, Volkanovski has dominated the Featherweight division. The 145-pound weight class will soon witness another title defense. “He’s very unpredictable. But we all know that I prepare and I do what I need to do,” Volkanovski said in a recent interview with Daniel Cormier and Ryan Clark. The UFC 290 main event will commence in July at the T-Mobile Arena facility in Paradise, Nevada.
