Former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has fought Max Holloway multiple times in his UFC career. Recently, the Australian fighter talked in depth about the UFC 300 card. As such, Volkanovski felt Holloway could not be counted out as an underdog to Justin Gaethje.
Alexander Volkanovski felt the fans gave too much credit to Gaethje ahead of the BMF title fight at UFC 300. Volk felt the fans underestimated the strengths and durability of Holloway. Volk failed to deliver a single knockdown after spending 75 minutes inside the octagon with ‘Blessed.’ As such, he believed Holloway was among the better betting underdogs to cash in on.
Did we not forget Max Holloway's chin? We've seen him in his last fights, the guy knows how to mix it up. I think he used to be more hittable back in the day. He was always very high-level, really good at setting up traps, but willing to be infront of you and eat some.Alexander Volkanovski via YouTube
Volkanovski said that Holloway has many more angles to throw shots from angles. The former champion complimented Holloway for being so skillful to be able to use different tools in his arsenal. As such, Holloway had the ability to shock the world by defeating Gaethje. Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski have fought three times since 2019. Despite the many compliments, Holloway was never able to secure a win against the former featherweight champion.
Volkanovski’s argument about Holloway makes sense. No one has ever knocked down the Hawaiian fighter let alone knock him out. Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Jose Aldo, Anthony Pettis, and Yair Rodriguez have tremendous punching power. Not a single one of them knocked him down. As such, Volk did not Gaethje had something special to knock Holloway out.
Who has been able to beat Max Holloway in his UFC career?
Max Holloway is a veteran of the sport and remains one of the most accomplished fighters on the roster. He has a long list of back-to-back wins against top-tier opponents. He even became the UFC featherweight champion and defended his title three times.
But who has defeated Max Holloway in his long and eclectic career spanning over twelve years? Interestingly, only four opponents managed to beat Holloway in the UFC. Dustin Poirier gave Holloway his first loss when they fought in 2012 at UFC 143. It was also Holloway’s promotional debut as well. Poirier submitted him with a triangle armbar in the first round of the bout. Further, he lost to Poirier again in 2019, this time via unanimous decision.
His second loss came in 2013 at UFC 160. Dennis Bermudez walked away with the win by split decision. His very next fight was against Conor McGregor and he lost this again by unanimous decision. After that, he went on a legendary winning streak in the featherweight division.
It came to an end at the hands of Volkanovski in 2019, Furthermore, Volk also defeated Holloway two more times as well. BMF champion Justin Gaethje has the opportunity to enter this prestigious list of fighters at UFC 300. Only time will tell if that happens or not.
