Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and sumo wrestling are two combat sports poles apart in terms of skills and agility required. But there always might be a question in people’s minds about which art is superior. Well, Alexander Volkanovski‘s BJJ coach, Craig Jones, gave the MMA fans a clear-cut answer.
In a viral video online, Alexander Volkanovski’s BJJ coach, Craig Jones, competed in a sumo-wrestling match. In the video, Jones stood up against a renowned wrestler named Kiryu. The fight started with both individuals sizing each other up. But in turn of events, Jones locked his opponent in a knee bar.
In the sport of BJJ, this was a definite submission. But sumo-wrestling doesn’t allow the same rules. According to the Japanese sport, anything other than the palms of the feet touching the ground will lead to a disqualification. Jones is an expert in the sport of BJJ and holds several honors. Some of them are Submission Underground champs and 2-time ADCC silver medallists. However, the BJJ specialist will need time to adapt to the sport.
Jones and his team wanted a peak in the sport of sumo wrestling. These regional fighters gave them an insight into this sport. Many other cultural practices were shared among the group. Jones stays on his path of exploring different combat skills, making him a skillful coach.
Alexander Volkanovski seems confident Islam Makhachev’s rematch

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovksi is eager to go up against lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in the rematch. The duo fought back in February when Islam got the better of Volkanovski. A decision victory from the judges gave Islam the no.1 pound-for-pound spot. But, there were speculations around the decision, as many thought Volkanovski won the fight.
However, now the featherweight champ has got over his loss and wants to throw down again with Makhachev. Volk believed that he fell short of dominance in that fight. This time, he said that he’d make it different. The featherweight champion remains confident getting the job done in the rematch.
Makhachev is yet to defend his title against a lightweight. But after the UFC 294 card release, the Dagestani fighter will go up against Charles Oliviera. Volkanovski believed that he should be next in line for the title shot. But his rematch depends a lot upon the result of UFC 294. BMF champion Justin Gaethje also holds the potential to intervene in Volkanovski’s plan. A choice between him and Gaethje is a riddle that UFC has to decide on.
