Volkov is currently on a three-fight win streak. His last fight was against Tai Tuivasa at UFC 293. Volkov won the fight after he submitted Tuivasa in the second round with an Ezekiel choke. Meanwhile, Pavlovich is coming off a number-one contender loss after he fought Tom Aspinall for the position at UFC 295.

Alexander Volkov’s massive Samurai tattoo

Alexander Volkov’s back tattoo is a massive piece that he got following his loss to Curtis Blaydes in June 2020. The tattoo featured a giant tribal manta ray in the center. Volkov’s tattoo got him a decent amount of attention because of how big and intricately detailed it was. However, this was not the end of his tattoo journey.

The UFC heavyweight covered up that tattoo last year and got an even bigger piece done. This time, it was a giant Samurai helmet which symbolizes the tussle between life and death. Volkov revealed at the UFC 254 press conference that he got the tattoo done in one go which took nearly two weeks to complete.

Volkov said that he did not like anything that was not finished. His tattoo artist praised him for sitting through nearly 55 hours of needlework. According to Volkov, the pain was excruciating towards the end, however, he went through it because he did not wish to go into his next fight with an incomplete tattoo.
