Alexandre Pantoja (24-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) took on Alex Perez (24-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in a flyweight contest on the main card of UFC 277. Pantoja has been at the top of the division for a long time, and he wanted a definite title shot after this fight.

Perez, a former title challenger was looking to start another title run, and a win over Pantoja would’ve placed him right in the title contention. It was an exciting flyweight contest and fans were very much looking forward to it.

Pantoja got his last win against Brandon Royval and he was supposed to get a title shot, but an unfortunate injury forced him out of the action, and with the champion, Deiveson Figueiredo out from the action, the UFC booked an interim flyweight title bout between Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France.

Round 1 – Pantoja immediately started throwing punches and Perez was caught by surprise, he immediately started retreating, and Pantoja took advantage of the opportunity and got a takedown. Perez was getting up, and Pantoja jumped on his back. He got his legs locked, and it was only a matter of time before he secured the rear naked choke.

Pantoja grabbed the mic during the post-fight interview, and he said he’s the future flyweight champion, and he will prove his worth as many times as needed to get a much-deserved title shot.

He is keeping a close eye on the interim flyweight contest between Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France, and he’d most definitely face the winner of that fight.
