Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev is confirmed for UFC 280 and the Dagestani’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz is back to doing what he always does best. The Dominance MMA President claims that the Brazilian was never a true champ of the lightweight division and former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov let him borrow the belt.

Ali Abdealaziz, the manager of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev has fired shots against the Brazilian lightweight king, Charles Oliveira. Khabib Nurmagomedov retired in 2020 and Oliveira was the next champion to put his hands on the vacant lightweight belt. Oliveira has won three title fights since Khabib’s retirement but Abdelaziz does not consider him to be the real and true champ.

Abdelaziz has been calling for Islam Makhachev to get the next title shot and the fight is finally here. In a recent interview with The Schmo, Abdelaziz spoke about Oliveira’s reign as the lightweight champion. According to Abdelaziz, Charles has been keeping the belt warm until Makhachev gets to wrap it around him in Abu Dhabi at UFC 280.

“Everybody says Charles is the champion, but I think Khabib let him borrow the belt Islam to have it,” said Abdelaziz as he made a bold claim in The Schmo interview. “I don’t think he ever was the champion. Who did he fight? Chandler, who is 2-2, Poirier…who Khabib beat.” Abdelaziz believes Oliveira has not beaten the best of the lightweight division to be called the true champion.

Charles lost his belt to the scales in his previous fight against Justin Gaethje. Despite being stripped of the belt, Oliveira went on to put on one of the most spectacular performances of the year. Charles now has the highest winning streak in the lightweight division which is followed by Makhachev’s winning streak.

“Islam is gonna play with him and show that there are levels to this game. Islam might be the best grappler in the UFC right now,” says Abdelaziz. The upcoming lightweight title fight makes for amazing storylines and great action in the octagon. The fans are already hyped for this upcoming fight.
