“Absolutely not done” Alistair Overeem promises he has 1 or 2 MMA bouts left in him, eyes fight against Fedor Emelianenko

Alistair Overeem has expressed his interest in a bout against Fedor

Alistair Overeem has been making headlines throughout his career be it in his kickboxing days or his triumphant early UFC days. Now though the old Overeem might have subsided the dominance he displayed, at 42, the Dutchman is ready to return to his original home in GLORY Kickboxing. At 42, Overeem is scheduled to return to the place where he initially marked himself on the radar.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani at the MMA Hour, Alistair talked about everything from celebrating his 42nd birthday the previous week to comments he previously made about the Pro-wrestling industry during his MMA Hour appearance. Overeem has a bout against legendary Kickboxer and fellow Dutchman Hari Badr set for October. The two will face off in their trilogy bout in kickboxing.

After Overeem was cut from the live interview due to some technical difficulties he would join up in some time via phone call to wrap up the interview. At this point Helwani asked of the Dutchman who is now engaged in kickboxing as well as pro-wrestling if he had finally closed the door on his MMA career to which he replied with an astounding, “Absolutely not”

Overeem went on to explain how he eyes for at least one or two bouts in MMA before calling it quits. A curious Helwani asked if there were any opponents lined up for that final bout to which Overeem replied positively but was hesitant to name out his opponent before everything was set in stone. This prompted Ariel to blurt out the first name with a similar age and legacy that came to his mind, “Fedor Emelianenko

At first Overeem was not very enthusiastic about the proposal saying he would not feel right fighting someone who has such a legacy in the sport but has been on the sidelines for the past few years. Overeem said he’s working on being more compassionate and knocking out people who have not been in the cage for years is not the right way around it.

However, Ariel rightly pointed out that while Overeem had his final MMA bout in February of 2021, Fedor had fought more recently in October 2021, winning the bout via KO. This changed Overeem’s demeanor who replied with an overjoyed, “Let’s go Fedor” scream.
