UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is set to defend his title against Sean O’Malley in the main event of UFC 292. Both fighters have gone back and forth in interviews leading to an intense buildup in this matchup. Sterling has never failed to suppress O’Malley’s hype in the interviews. On multiple occasions, Sterling has also called his opponent ‘lucky’ to be receiving a title shot.
When asked about Snoop Dogg promoting O’Malley after his Dana White’s Contender Series performance, the champ said, “I think anyone could’ve become a superstar like that overnight. It’s all hype. Especially when you are fighting against guys who should not be in the cage with you. It’s easy to stack up the resume.” Further, Sterling spoke about O’Malley’s resume remaining unimpressive as the fighters he defeated are no longer in the UFC except for Petr Yan. “The Funkmaster” ended the interview with a bold statement. He said, “I can’t wait to go out there and just smash the teacher’s pet hype machine.”
Aljamain Sterling has an excellent record against ranked opponents. In his UFC career, he has fought big bantamweight names like Cory Sandhagen, Henry Cejudo, Petr Yan, and T.J. Dillashaw. His victories against these fighters have bolstered his confidence. As Sterling said, Sean does lack big names in his UFC resume. His victory against the only ranked opponent came after a 3 round war against Petr Yan. Hence, Sterling is riding high on confidence heading into the title fight.
Despite all the statements, Sean O’Malley can hurt Sterling and clinch the title from him. O’Malley’s path to victory will have to come from a knockout. All eyes will be set on UFC 292 as this bantamweight rivalry unfolds.
Aljamain Sterling offers a fight to Demetrious Johnson

The current undisputed champion Aljamain Sterling has made a stunning fight offer to ONE Championship’s flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. Sterling is about to fight Sean O’Malley to defend his bantamweight title at UFC 292. Despite his set main event, the UFC champ is giving Johnson an opportunity to take revenge for friend Henry Cejudo.
At UFC 288, Sterling went against former champion Henry Cejudo. “The Funkmaster” emerged victorious with a split decision from the judges. Further, Sterling is ready to give Johnson the opportunity to avenge his friend’s loss. Johnson, who has been training alongside Henry Cejudo since their fights in the UFC, could take up the challenge to avenge his teammate.
According to Sterling, Johson has a size disadvantage that can give the UFC champion an upper hand in this matchup. Sterling referenced Johnson’s fight with Dominick Cruz to assert that Johnson lacks the size to defeat him. Though Sterling is on a great run of form, the name Demetrious Johnson should not be messed with, as many of his opponents have faced consequences for their actions.
