Aljamain Sterling gets a hometown parade
From being clowned by many to being celebrated by his entire hometown, Aljamain Sterling‘s journey is truly a beautiful one. The bantamweight champion is welcomed like a hero, in Nassau County, Long Island.
Aljamain Sterling now has a day that will be officially celebrated in his name by the residents of Nassau County, Long Island, New York. The bantamweight champion was the center of attention as the returned to his hometown. Sterling was celebrated for his title defense against Peter Yan in April. The “Funkmaster” went on a parade around the town and was honored in his own high school.
Sterling was emotional as the people turned out in huge numbers. Aljamain was invited to also deliver a speech to inspire the students of his hometown and also his high school. The fighter said, “Inspiration is everything, man. Sometimes you need that little bit of spark to see someone that either looks like you or comes from where you came from that kinda gives you that extra motivation.”
After his amazing rally, Sterling took to Instagram to thank everybody that turned out and acknowledge the amazing event. “May 23rd is officially “Aljamain Sterling Day” in Nassau County, Long Island New York! Babe, I think we should run for office next!” wrote Sterling on his Instagram caption.
What is next for Aljamain Sterling?
At UFC 273, Aljamain Sterling took on his most intense rival Petr Yan in a title rematch. The fighter became the champion in the most uneventful way as he was crowned via disqualification in the first meeting. However, Sterling proved all his doubters wrong at UFC 273 when he dominated Yan to become the undisputed bantamweight champion.
Sterling after his win against Yan called out TJ Dillashaw, the former champion who has returned from his ban. The Funkmaster wants to defend his title against him. However, the bantamweight king has a couple of options to choose from. Sterling has proven that he can be one of the best in the division with his wrestling skills. The fighter has some of the best ground skills in the bantamweight division.
