UFC champ Aljamain Sterling is about to face UFC’s Former Champ this weekend on UFC 288. As the fight gets closer, many interesting things are being revealed to the MMA community. In a recent interview, Sterling revealed that he is banned from fighting at Meccah.
UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling recently revealed his medical condition or diagnosis, which didn’t allow him to fight in his home state. Starling revealed that this problem happened to him prior to his UFC debut when a CT scan report showed that he had two spots in his brain. After hearing this then, Aljamain was shocked as well, given if the condition was serious, his debut would take muchlonger.
Aljamain Sterling revealed on The MMA Hour that “So when I made my UFC debut, February 2014 at UFC 170, the Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann card, I believe. I had to get a CAT scan, first time ever getting a CAT scan. They found two spots on my brain, they were like a millimetre or something like that. It looked like there was trauma, and they weren’t sure what it was. I forget the exact term, aneurysm or angioma or something like that,”
Sterling’s condition was identified when fighters went for pre-fight medical tests. As Aljamain’s hometown is New York, he also trains there. So before debuting his matchup at UFC 170: Rousey vs. McMann in Las Vegas, he went for a medical test, and that’s where two spots were found in his brain. The doctor said they couldn’t allow him to fight.

How Aljamain Sterling got approval to fight in all other states?
As Aljamain was worried that he would compete on the biggest stage, he told the doctors to check his condition because they would have to drill his skull. Aljamain with future plans ahead directly said “In order for me to be cleared, I would’ve had to like go take it out of my head. So, I wasn’t sure if I needed to get like drilled in my head to pull these things out. So they monitored it, they allowed me to fight in Nevada.”
Finally, it was a relief for Sterling, as he said they had been observing his condition for the past few years. But still, the New York Commission does not support Aljamain’s decision to fight in the cage. Even after getting the green signal from the doctors, they are not allowing him.
“A couple years after they realised, nothing was happening. They were like, ‘Okay, you’re safe. You’re not bleeding out, you’re not going to die in the cage.’ Knock on wood! So things were good, and I was allowed to compete in Nevada and all the other states except New York.”
Aljamain will be defending the title against former champ Henry Cejudo, who hasn’t fought against anyone since the last 2 years after his retirement.
