Anderson Silva and Charles Oliveira know what it’s like to have the hopes of a nation strapped onto their back and the pressure of standing tall in the face of it. As both these fighters prepare for massive bouts in their own right, it may be good for Oliveira to know, that an icon in his country fanboys over him.
Silva, who reigned over the middleweight division of the UFC for the longest time was undoubtedly the first megastar to come out of MMA, certainly in his home of Brazil. The very same Silva, now wholeheartedly stans Oliviera and he revealed the very same during a recent podcast appearance with Full Send MMA.
Giving his prediction for the upcoming title fight at UFC 280, Silva gave an endearing example that gauges the popularity Oliveira holds in his country. As someone who is nearly 50 and only starting his second career in combat sports, it is safe to say that Silva is a restless man. Whenever he does something not suitable for his age, his kids try to hold him back.
He said, ” Whenever I do something crazy, the kids go, ‘Dad You’re Crazy’ no I’m Gracie bro, I’m Gracie”, describing how he would tell his kids that he’s as immortal as the Gracie name itself. However, recently even that legendary name has found a replacement. “The other thing [I tell them] is ‘C’mon man My name is Charles, Charles Do Bronx man'”, said Silva, recognizing that Oliveira is currently more famous than any is Brazil’s long history of combat sports.
Though just a passing comment, it resembles a genuine passing of the torch moment from Silva who has come full circle from being the one adored to being the one adoring.

When it came time to pick a side in the upcoming lightweight title fight, Silva had no hesitation in naming his. A former student of Chute Boxe himself, Silva staunchly supports Oliveira in his effort to recapture the title he was stripped of.
“Charles Oliveira is an amazing fighter, and nobody can talk about him ’cause the kid is doing something very crazy and training hard, training a lot for many many years, no I think you start to see more of your value in the company, “ said Silva praising the new torchbearer of Brazilian MMA.

When asked if he predicts a win for Oliveira in the upcoming title fight, he immediately replied, “Of course, Charles Do Bronx is going to win bro, of course.” Silva then informed the podcast’s hosts about their team affiliations and said, though tough, he can totally see his countryman walking out of Abu Dhabi with a UFC title.
