Anshul Jubli Makes the entire nation proud and makes his way to the final of the road to UFC by exhibiting an excellent striking showdown
Anshul Jubli vs Kyung Pyo Kim
Anshul Jubli of India defeated Kyung Pyo Kim of South Korea in the lightweight division at the Road to UFC semifinal on Sunday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Jubli got off to a strong start in the opening round, landing multiple blows on his opponent. The South Korean re-entered the fight in the second round, pressing Anshul furiously and striking him.
The third round saw them equally matched as the match went into the hands of judges. In the end, Jubli defeated Pyo Kim by a split decision, 29-28, 28-29, 29-28, to go to the finals. Anshul would be looking forward to winning the most coveted UFC contract when he will face Jeka Saragih in the final of the tournament.
The Uttarakhand native will be the second Indian fighter to represent India if he succeeds in the competition. Previously, Bharat Kandre represented India in the UFC before getting cut from the promotion.
Anshul Jubli reveals that winning the fight via split decision was never the plan
In the post-fight interview, Anshul expressed disappointment over the split decision result of his fight and his desire to go forward with better fighting techniques. Jubli also discussed his career goals before he decided to become a fighter.
When asked about his fight Anshul said, “This fight this time I don’t know I made so many mistakes .. I won by split decisions that was not in my plan.. I made so many mistakes and I am gonna fix it and I’ll perform better next time”. When asked about his presence in the Octagen and how it affected his career, Jubli then responded by saying, “This was not a career for me, I was math teacher and wanted to join the Army to become an Army officer. .. I was just good at them but they were not my passion”.
Jubli was also asked about the artwork in the jacket he wore which he described as a print representing his country and wanted to declare that soon there will be many fighters from his country India to take over UFC. Anshul will be carrying the hope of his countrymen to leave a mark in UFC as an Indian fighter and make his motherland proud.
