“My heart beat out my throat,” Ariel Helwani shares a surprising memory of presenting alongside UFC commentary team

In case you think that Ariel Helwani presenting the UFC main card alongside the commentary team is a thing of the parallel universe, maybe you aren’t that hardcore of a fan. Helwani, who is a veteran sports journalist at AoL, ESPN and FOX Sports representing the sport of MMA as a prominent journalist and media personality, is currently the host of the longtime most famous MMA show in the industry, the MMA Hour produced by a prominent media outlet, MMA Fighting.

The UFC commentary team has changed over time but Joe Rogan has remained the constant face of all the numbered PPV events of the UFC for the past 25 years. For the most part, Rogan has been accompanied by former UFC commentator Mike Goldberg, who left the UFC in 2016 after a change in the ownership of the company from Zuffa to WME-IMG. Rogan now is accompanied by UFC Hall of Famers Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping in turns and longtime UFC broadcaster Jon Anik.

Helwani took to Twitter to share a memorable clip on his official account and wrote on caption “Great memories nine years ago today with @goldieontv and @joerogan in San Diego. Felt like my heart was going to beat out of my throat. (Long live Versus and The Daily Line.)” In the clip, you can see Helwani accompanying Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan for presenting the upcoming fights in one of the UFC events.

Goldberg surprisingly quoted Helwani’s tweet and said “Wow! GREAT MEMORIES INDEED, so happy for your success, Keep killing it my friend!” To this Helwani replied, “Great find Mike! Thank you! Hope all is well”

What do you make of this throwback clip by Ariel Helwani? Do you think we will ever see Helwani in this situation again? Both UFC President Dana White and Helwani talk to each other with a rather bitter taste, obviously less bitter than in 2016 when White banned Helwani from covering UFC events due to the latter’s move of leaking the news of the return of Brock Lesnar in the UFC for one fight at UFC 200.
