Arman Tsarukyan is a surging contender in the lightweight division of the UFC. The Armenian fighter will fight Charles Oliveira at UFC 300 in a number one contender fight. Tsarukyan’s debut in the UFC came against Islam Makhachev, now the division’s champion. Fans and analysts have picked Oliveira and Khabib Nurmagomedov as the best lightweights ever in the UFC. However, Tsarukyan does not appear to be a fan of their styles.

Tsarukyan recently interviewed with Ushatayka, an Eastern European combat sports channel. The interviewer asked Tsarukyan a hypothetical question of who among Oliveira and Nurmagomedov he would model his son if he chose to fight. This is what he said in reply.

I wouldn't choose Khabib or Oliveira. I would definitely choose Jon Jones or Demetrious Johnson.

Jon Jones and Demetrious Johnson are the arguable GOATS of MMA along with Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre. Tsarukyan is a fan of Khabib Nurmagomedov, as he has spoken about it in the past. Interestingly, Nuramgomedov’s success prompted Tsarukyan to pursue MMA.

Tsarukyan’s latest fight was against Beneil Dariush at UFC Austin. He won the fight via first-round knockout and called for a title shot. However, his altercation with Bobby Green before the event made more noise than the fight. Green fought in the co-main event of UFC Austin, where Jalin Turner viciously knocked him out.

Arman Tsarukyan fights Charles Oliveira at UFC 300

Arman Tsarukyan called for a title shot against Islam Makhachev after his victory at UFC Austin. UFC CEO Dana White had originally planned a fight between Makhachev and Charles Oliveira for the title. However, Tsarukyan’s impressive victory swayed White’s plans.

White announced Oliveira and Tsarukyan for a number one contender fight at UFC 300. Both fighters are coming first-round finishes of Beneil Dariush. Moreover, both have also lost to Islam Makhachev before. Makhachev targeted for a fight with Justin Gaethje but the UFC had other plans. The Tsarukyan fight was one of Islam Makhachev’s toughest fights. On the other hand, Makhachev easily defeated Oliveira in their fight.

Many tout Tsarukyan to have the best chance at dethroning Makhachev. Moreover, UFC lightweight Dan Hooker even predicted that Makhachev would not fight Tsarukyan again for fear of losing. The statement did not go unnoticed by MMA fans who brutally trolled the Kiwi. Hooker had in the past been accused of foul play at UFC 284.
