Before his passing in 2020, Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov had once discussed the greatness of Jon Jones as a fighter. In an interview, the Dagestani Sambo wrestling coach said that Jones could potentially take up heavyweights due to his accolades as a young but experienced prospect.

Jon Jones is set to take on Ciryl Gane on his return to the octagon at UFC 285 after a three-year lay-off. Jones’ last title defense came as the light heavyweight champion against Dominick Reyes in 2020. Since then, the 35-year-old fighter had been taking his time off to naturally bulk up to heavyweight.

Jon Jones has a gift of destiny, from god, not from Greg Jackson. Greg Jackson is a good striking coach, don’t get this confused. Everyone has their strong sides. What’s necessary is the strategic thinking regarding the fight, as a whole,” Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov said. “Jon Jones, we know, is the number one as a fighter…But I am sure that he will destroy the heavyweights too. All top 5 heavyweights, maybe only two of them you can have a doubt,” Adbulmanap added.

Initially speculated to fight former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, Jones had clearly kept his crosshair on the title. However, due to long-term disputes in contract negotiations with the UFC, Ngannou shockingly decided to leave the promotion as a free agent.

Jon Jones will return to the octagon after three years of natural bulking from light-heavyweight to gaining 40 lbs of natural mass. The former UFC LHW champion has undoubtedly the best resume in the sport of MMA with undisputed and dominating victories against multiple world champions.

His opponent, Ciryl Gane is being considered by many, a better stylistic matchup than the former heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. Gane had been an undefeated MMA fighter till his first loss in 2021 to Ngannou. Gane’s kickboxing and gas tank is possibly the best among all heavyweight contenders.

A recent tweet by the UFC showed Jon Jones hitting pads with his striking partners and coach. Hilariously enough, fans reacted to the Jones’ infamous calf muscles. Being a physically bigger competitor than most, Jones’ legs are often ridiculed for being too skinny by fans despite his achievements in the sport.

His calves are still in the flyweight division,” a user hilariously pointed out. With just five days remaining to the upcoming mega-fight, the legendary return of Jones will test his durability and ability to fight as a heavyweight.
