A majority of people are not daring to pick against Charles Oliveira but very few believe in the skills of Islam Makhachev and Belal Muhammad is one of those few. Muhammad, a #5 ranked UFC welterweight last fought in April of 2022 when he avenged one of his losses in a rematch against Vicente Luque. Now, Muhammad will fight strong prospect and #7 ranked Sean Brady at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi.
On the same fight card, the main event settles for a huge showdown between UFC lightweights, #1 ranked Charles Oliveira and #4 ranked Islam Makhachev, for the vacant lightweight championship of the world. Both Oliveira and Makhachev are on an 11 and a 10-fight winning streak respectively. Oliveira is the former champion out of the two, who only lost the belt due to missing weight by just 0.5 lbs back in his last fight at UFC 274.

In an interview with Helen Yee, Muhammad talks about his upcoming fight against Sean Brady at UFC 280, his basketball showdown against UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, his thoughts on Chimaev vs Diaz and much more. In the midst of all, Muhammad also reacts to UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov’s statement that the latter’s mentee, Islam Makhachev will become the new UFC lightweight champion at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi.
“Honestly I could see it playing out that way,” said Muhammad “I’ve trained with them, I see what those guys do, I see how good they are. Islam on the ground is on another level than a lot of these guys think. There’s Jiu-Jitsu then there’s Dagestani Jiu-Jitsu. It’s a lot tougher a lot stronger… Islam is going to be wanting to take you down, Islam’s going to be wanting to get on top of you, grind on you, stay on top, not be afraid to go to the ground…” continues Muhammad.
What do you make of Muhammad counting high on Islam getting his hand raised in the latter’s much-awaited title shot at UFC 280? Do you see the fight go the same way? Sure Oliveira is on a run no one would’ve anticipated, but the 2 people out of Oliveira’s list of opponents are Tony Ferguson and Paul Felder. While Oliveira did win against Ferguson, he couldn’t finish him and Felder is the last man to have defeated Oliveira.
