A few other fighters can stand up to George Foreman when it comes to pure punching power. The former 2-time heavyweight champion was undoubtedly one of the heaviest punches of his era and may even hold the honor of being the all-time great in that category. Foreman’s career has been a testament to the same.

Up until his biggest fight and first professional loss against Muhammad Ali, Foreman left a trail of destruction on the path he walked, with only 2 of his 40 fights till that point going the distance. In fact before the infamous Rumble In The Jungle, Foreman had often bested Ali’s top opponents in brutal fashion.

Case and point, Joe Fraizer a former friend of Ali, was set to defend the championship he won off Ali against Foreman. In his fight against the great one, Fraizer became the first man to make Ali taste the canvas and won the fight on the scorecards. Foreman worked extra hard to make sure that Fraizer didn’t have the judges to help him, scoring 6 knockdowns during the fight that ultimately ended with the referee stepping in after Fraizer’s knee collapsed courtesy of continuous strikes to the face by George.

George Foreman’s loss against Ali was not a blemish on Big George but instead a testament to Ali’s legacy as he managed to overcome the invincible threat that was George Forman. However even Ali credited George with being the hardest hitter he’s ever faced and if it weren’t for Foreman suffering from exhaustion, the fight could have ended very differently

This very precise and punishing punching power, came from the hours Big George spent in training constantly working on his hooks and straights. In these training sessions, it was not uncommon to see Foreman having completely changed the shape of the heavy bag due to the power he possessed.

It was this natural power that added to the tenacity of George Foreman that might have led him to accomplish the impossible feat of reclaiming his heavyweight title, 20 years after first losing it. Making his return to boxing at age 38 after retiring at 28, many thought Foreman to be nothing else but a boxer trying to squeeze the last few dollars left in his name value.

But Foreman kept shocking everyone as he kept beating better competitors with every passing fight, even going all 12 rounds against then Champion, Evander Holyfield. At age 45, he finally accomplished his dream by scoring a KO victory over Michael Moorer. Foreman would go on to defend his title thrice before retiring again after a loss to Shannon Briggs.
