The UFC has hosted many iconic rivalries over the years. Among the top contenders in the welterweight division, Belal Muhammad and Colby Covington have recently made news for heated debates and exchanges over social media.

Kamaru Usman was the UFC welterweight titleholder. However, everything changed at UFC 278 when Leon Edwards took away the title to become the new UFC Welterweight champion. Naturally, everyone wants a shot at the title. Colby Covington has previously failed twice to secure the UFC title against Kamaru Usman. Despite this, the UFC has given Covington a shot at the title against Leon Edwards. UFC president Dana White announced the news at the post-fight press conference of UFC 286.

This news did not sit well with many fighters and Belal Muhammad is one of them. At the time, Muhammad is on an impressive eight-fight winning streak. Since then, Belal and Covington have exchanged heated jibes on various occasions. Belal does not believe Colby has enough stats to deserve a title shot and considered himself a more suitable contender.

Many months have gone since, but the rivalry has not subsided. This is because Belal Muhammad recently came to Covington fresh on Twitter. He has brought up a controversial subject that has plagued Covington since his rivalry days against Jorge Masvidal.

During his training camp, Yair Rodriguez has recently been spotted with Belal Muhammad. Rodriguez is training for a highly anticipated bout against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 290. A fan tagged Muhammad and asked him about his thoughts on facing Covington which is when Belal made the controversial remark.

The fan asked Muhammad if he would be willing to fight Covington for the interim welterweight belt, to which he responded, “Usada popped him for herpes.” This claim regarding Covington’s alleged sexually transmitted infection remains uncertain, and it is unclear whether Muhammad made the statement in jest or is serious.

Fans eagerly await Muhammad’s clarification on such a serious accusation. While Colby Covington is known for his brash and provocative language, Belal Muhammad seems unfazed and ready to retaliate.
