Askren believes Masvidal landed the "luckiest" knee in MMA History
Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal were bonded in eternity over the 5 seconds they shared the octagon with each other. However, Askren feels that Masvidal should be indebted to him for proving him his “15 Minutes of fame. ” Recently on the MMA Hour he called for Masvidal to send him annual Christmas cards.
Askren was knocked by Masvidal at UFC 239, in the opening 5 seconds of the fight, marking the shortest fight in UFC history. Askren, a recent trade from ONE FC, was yet to prove himself in the UFC as his victory against Robbie Lawler ended with a controversial stoppage.
Askren talking about his experience through the ordeal recently told Ariel Helwani about the parts of the night he remembered. Detailing the immediate aftermath, he said, “Then that journeyman bum, became one of the biggest stars in the game,” adding, “you’re welcome Jorge”
Askren was then asked by Helwani if he thinks Masvidal appreciates him for it. Without hesitation, he replied, “If he doesn’t, he’s an ungrateful son of a b**ch, how about that?”, doubling down Askren added, “He needs to send me a Christmas card every year for the next 20 years, but legit if he doesn’t, he’s ungrateful, but he probably doesn’t want me to give me credit for anything so, s*ck it Jorge”
Askren responded to a clip of him on the show, saying, “it’s true”, preceded by laughing emojis.
Would Ben Askren be able to beat Jorge Masvidal?

In the past, Askren has argued that had the knee not connected, it would have been a rough night for Masvidal. Previously he has stated on Twitter that Masvidal landed the “Luckiest” knee of his life, saying, “I made you famous. You’re welcome. You got 50-43’d by Usman and will likely again next month. Beat it loser.” shortly before Askren’s fight against Jake Paul.
If Masvidal’s record since, is anything to go by, Askren may very well have a point. His only victory after Askren has been against a striker and a non-ranked welterweight in Nate Diaz. He has since faced strong wrestlers only to be dominated with multiple 10-8 rounds going against his favor.
His most recent bout against former teammate Colby Covington displayed how a good wrestler can suffocate and negate any of Jorge’s offense. While not a polished striker, lower than Covington’s caliber perhaps, Askren is a way more accomplished wrestler. How do you feel the fight between the two would have gone, had the knee not landed? Let us know!
