“I need somebody in front of me” – Beneil Dariush eyes a fight against either Dustin Poirier or Michael Chandler

Beneil Dariush
Beneil Dariush is tired of being sidelined. The fighter wants to get into the octagon as soon as possible and he has two names that strike a chord. Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier are the two opponents that Dariush would like to face inside the octagon.
Beneil Dariush has been on a fantastic win streak and is one of the potential lightweight title contenders. The fighter has fought some of the best in the division and is currently on a 7-fight winning streak. After missing out on a potential title eliminator fight against Islam Makhachev due to injury, Beneil is now finding it hard to book a fight for himself.
Dariush is coming off a win against former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 262. The fight took place in May of 2021 and it has been more than a year since we saw the #6 lightweight inside the octagon. After the Ferguson win, a lot of people believed, Dariush was just one fight away from a title fight but things seem to change so quickly in the UFC’s most stacked division. Recently Dariush attended the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony that took place during International Fight Week and the fighter addressed a lot of media revealing his interest to fight soon.

On the red carpet of UFC Hall of Fame, Beneil spoke to reporter Shakiel Mahjouri and gave an update on what the UFC plan on doing with him. “I’ve asked for Dustin or Chandler but I’m not hearing a whole lot…At this point, I just need somebody in front of me,” said the rising lightweight fighter.
Beneil has always been a fighter that has not gatekept his precious ranking. The fighter is always down to fight anybody that makes sense. He also revealed in one of the interviews on the red carpet that he would be open to fighting another rising lightweight prospect in Mateusz Gamrot. The fighter is coming off a win against Arman Tsarukyan and Beneil was truly impressed with both the fighters.
Dariush in his seven-fight winning streak has 4 finishes and 4 decision wins. The last time he faced defeat in the octagon was in the year 2018. Dariush can still be hopeful of fighting a top opponent given that the contenders for the title fight have not been confirmed.
