“All these guys are just food”- Beneil Dariush puts the entire division on notice as he prepares for his comeback

Beneil Dariush was set to main event UFC Fight Night against Islam Makhachev before pulling out 10 days before the fight due to a broken ankle. The fighter was disappointed as a victory against Islam would surely put him up as the number one contender for the lightweight title. Unfortunately for Beneil, this fight was supposed to be rebooked, but now it looks like he’ll have to wait a little longer.

Charles Oliveira was stripped from his lightweight title as he missed weight at UFC 274, he then went on to face Justin Gaethje for the number one contender spot, and filled with rage, he choked out Gaethje in the very first round to prove who’s the uncrowned champ of the division.

After the fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov asked for a title fight for Islam Makhachev, but Dana White claimed he wants to rebook Islam vs Beneil. Nothing has been decided yet, but the Dagestani corner is pushing hard for a title shot against Oliveira, Khaib claims Islam has proven his worth, and he shouldn’t need to beat Beneil to get this fight.

Beneil was keeping a close eye on all these exchanges, and he talked his mind for the first time in an interview with the ESPN, he expressed his frustration, and said, “In my mind, if I’m as good as I think I am, if I’m the best in the world then everybody’s food. All these guys are just food and the only difference is, is the rotation. Like who’s gonna be first for me to eat. That’s basically how I look at it and so that’s one of the reasons why I’m not jumping on it like, ‘Oh, Charles has to give me this fight.’”

He added, “I could clearly say, ‘Hey buddy, you always talk about how the top five never gave you the fight. We were scheduled to fight, we were supposed to fight in October of 2020, you bailed on me and said family issues, and then December you fought Tony Ferguson.’ What the heck, man? You’re being kind of a hypocrite. If I really cared, that’s how I’d come at this. I’d be like, ‘You’re being a hypocrite, you owe me a fight. Give me the fight,’ but I don’t care.”

At last, he concluded by saying, “You can make a case for both of us. Honestly, I don’t care. Let me know who’s next. Am I fighting Chandler, am I fighting Dustin Poirier, am I fighting Islam? I want to know if I’m fighting Islam and by a miracle am I fighting Charles. I just want to know what’s going on next and that’s really where I’m at.”
