Earlier ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed that Dariush will have to pull out his name from the main event fight against Islam Makhachev. It was then revealed that the fighter had suffered a severe ankle injury during a training session.

After Dariush was ruled out of the main event, Bobby Green stepped in on very short notice to take on Makhachev on February 26. Green is coming off an amazing decision victory against Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 271. If he manages to register a win and stop the undefeated streak of the Dagestani he might get promoted higher in the rankings.

Vettori and Dariush are gym mates and trained at Kings MMA for a long time now. And being a training partner and good friend, ‘The Italian Dream’ could not stop himself from shutting down the trolls. Vettori took to his Twitter account and informed that people are badmouthing Dariush without any reason.

According to Vettori, Dariush’s injury is very serious and he has no other options. The former middleweight contender appreciated Dariush for being one of the most active fighters in the UFC roster who is ready to fight anybody.

For everybody talking shit, benny’s leg has a serious injury, there wasn’t anything he wanted more than this fight. 20 ufc fights, fought pretty much everyone, one of the most active in the roster. Wash your mouth whenever you talk about him,” said Vettori.

Dariush is currently on a seven-fight win streak and has defeated opponents like Thiago Moisés, Drakkar Klose, Tony Ferguson etc. The fighter has always been a great performer and has always taken every challenge without a flight.

For him, the fight against Makhachev was very important and a win would have given him a title opportunity against the lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira. Now that Dariush is out, if Makhachev wins his bout against Green he will be the top contender for the title.
