“Bailed, ran, and fought Tony Ferguson”- Beneil Dariush throws heavy accusations toward Charles Oliveira
Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira
Beneil Dariush was set to main event UFC Fight Night against Islam Makhachev before pulling out 10 days before the fight due to a broken ankle. The fighter was disappointed as a victory against Islam would surely put him up as the number one contender for the lightweight title. Unfortunately for Beneil, this fight was supposed to be rebooked, but now it looks like he’ll have to wait a little longer.
Charles Oliveira was stripped from his lightweight title as he missed weight at UFC 274, he then went on to face Justin Gaethje for the number one contender spot, and filled with rage, he choked out Gaethje in the very first round to prove who’s the uncrowned champ of the division.
After the fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov asked for a title fight for Islam Makhachev, but Dana White claimed he wants to rebook Islam vs Beneil. Nothing has been decided yet, but the Dagestani corner is pushing hard for a title shot against Oliveira, Khaib claims Islam has proven his worth, and he shouldn’t need to beat Beneil to get this fight.

“Same thing people did to him, he’s doing to me”- Beneil Dariush accuses Charles Oliveira of accusing a fight against him
Beneil was keeping a close eye on all these exchanges, and he talked his mind for the first time on The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast, he expressed his frustration, and talking about Oliveira, he said, “He’s talking about wanting to fight Conor, and he talks about how these guys never gave him a shot when he was outside the top five, blah, blah, blah. We were supposed to fight October of 2020. I have a fight contract, I can post a picture of it.”
He added, “I was supposed to fight Charles, and he pulled out of the fight, and then a couple months later, instead of fighting me, he fought Tony Ferguson. He said something about family issues and I’m not going to say, ‘Oh, he didn’t fight me, I can’t believe it.’ Family comes first, I understand that. But the same thing people did to him, he’s doing to me.”
“He was supposed to fight me, bailed, ran and fought Tony Ferguson. Now, instead of fighting actual contenders, he wants to go fight Conor? He wants to go fight Nate Diaz? This is hypocritical. This is the only thing that’s bothering me,” Beneil concluded.
