Benoit Saint-Denis claimed the infection affected his performance against Dustin Poirier. BSD blamed the antibiotics that he had to take to heal up. While Staph infections can lead to the fight’s cancellation, Saint-Denis didn’t want this chance to pass. A win against ‘The Diamond’ could’ve sky-rocketed his rankings in the lightweight division. As such, he endured the infection and fought at UFC 299.

Now, the Frenchman details the effects of the Staph treatment, which directly affected his performance. Benoit Saint-Denis claimed the initial struggle with the infection was during weight-cut. He had two extra kilograms to cut and somehow grunted through it. Here is what he said:

The treatment I took, the weight was not going down as usual and I had two more kilograms to cut and it was too difficult. And I paid for that the day after. I had no reflex. I was out of form. I was very slow, my kick was sloppy has hell. It's my fault, you know.

Nonetheless, he took accountability for it and promised to come back. Also, he was grateful for the opportunity to fight UFC legend Dustin Poirier. At just 28 years of age, ‘God of War’ has a long career ahead of him.
