Benoit Saint-Denis lost to MMA veteran Dustin Poirier at UFC 299. Coming into the fight he was the favorite, considering he was on a five-fight win streak. Saint-Denis later revealed that he was completely dehydrated before the fight and it contributed to his loss. Here is what happened:

Saint-Denis was not satisfied with his performance in his fight against Dustin Poirier. The French fighter lost the fight due to a devastating knockout. He took to Instagram where he expressed his frustration and plans for a return.

I fought completely dehydrated, Frustration is huge but it's hard to judge when to cancel such an opportunity. It's up to show you the BSD of the last fights when I return, and earn my revenge against this Louisiana guy.

The fight between Poirier and Saint-Denis took place in Miami, Florida. Poirier defeated Saint-Denis by knocking him out in the second round of the fight. It was the co-main event of UFC 299. Poirier is a veteran of the sport and he took on the 28-year-old French talent in a five-round showdown. Poirier was applauded a lot for his performance in this fight. UFC CEO, Dana White praised him at the post-fight press conference and said that these were the type of fights that gave a fighter legendary status.

Saint-Denis started the fight by walking Poirier down from the opening bell. He tried to put pressure on the lightweight legend early in the first round. Poirier however responded with his counterpunches and ultimately took him down with a brutal right hook and a follow-up on the ground. The Louisiana native later said in the post-fight press conference that he was glad he was able to beat Saint-Denis, who was an up-and-coming fighter.

Dustin Poirier was unhappy with Joe Rogan’s commentary. Poirier discussed his UFC 299 win over Benoit Saint-Denis on The MMA Hour. There, Poirier said that Rogan was wrong about his game. He highlighted that Rogan made claims that he was exhausted five times during the fight.

However, Poirier denied these claims and said that he has some of the best cardio in the sport. He said he could go 25 minutes hard in the octagon without tiring and that he felt good after the fight. These are some interesting claims from the 35-year-old fighter.

Poirier is a former interim lightweight titleholder. Despite rib injuries, he expressed readiness for a June title fight against Islam Makhachev. If it happens, this fight would mark his third attempt at the UFC lightweight title.
