“I’ve been villainized,” Bobby Green cuts IMPASSIONATE promo during UFC Vegas 66 media scrub claiming innocence after serving a 6-month USADA suspension

Bobby Green- USADA

UFC lightweight journeyman Bobby Green was served a 6-month suspension by USADA in May this year. He had tested positive while out of active competition for the banned substance DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone)

This suspension came five months after Bobby Green fought twice in February. “King,” who is slated to fight Drew Dober at UFC Vegas 66, gave a sensational monologue defending himself at the pre-fight media scrum.

Vehemently denying any misdeeds, he said, “I’ve been chastised, I’ve been villainized, I’ve been, anymore of those ‘ized’ you can come up with… There’s no way I could be on drugs, don’t play with my name. I’m not that guy. If you think if I would play with my public, I’ve never lied to none of my public ever. Only lies I tell is to the woman I lay with.”

The extract above is only a part of what the 36-year-old fighter said while pleading his innocence. Green also made the claim that like Jon Jones, he too popped due to a tainted supplement and refused to admit to any wrongdoings on his part. And at 36, he will surely want to put this behind him. Besides, with an opponent like Drew Dober, King does not have any room to be distracted or have his focus split.

Bobby Green was the last person to fight current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev before he became the champ. The American even joked about how he was the guy everyone fights to earn their title shot. He was dismantled in the octagon by Islam, losing the bout in the first round via TKO.

It is safe to say that he is familiar with the utter dominance displayed by the champion every time he steps into the octagon. So when a reporter asked Bobby Green if he was impressed by Makhachev’s performance against Charles Oliveira, he was quick to give his take on the champion.

“I found this little video that said Islam had a little trouble with drugs. But I don’t see people talking about him. Imagine if you gave someone steroids from the age of 10, 12, 13, 14, 15. Imagine how strong you would be. He was really strong, it made sense now.” said Green.

Makhachev’s former rival apparently also told his coach that there was something different about Islam. Green also outright stated that PED and steroid abuse is much more rampant in the Dagestani fighter’s home country of Russia than it is in the USA. However, he also said that the fighters from Dagestan were bred to be fighters and this is what makes them winners.
