While the MMA masses were unaware of the reason behind Green’s exit, the lightweight fighter recently came forward and gave a clarification on why the fans didn’t get to see him take on Jim Miller.

He confessed to a failed drug test as the reason for him not fighting in a video on his Instagram, titled, “I’m really sorry guys I fucked up”. Speaking about the issue, he said, “I’m crushed. I’m like what the f*ck? I had no idea, guys, what I was doing, that it was wrong, that there was any benefits to what I was doing. I would never try to cheat.”

Bobby Green has also taken any responsibility off of USADA’s hands, saying that it was he who had the last call in choosing to take the supplement that made him test positive.

What banned substance did Bobby Green consume?

There are a lot of substances that have been banned by USADA, in response to the calls of fighters and experts to curb the rampant doping problem within the sport. Steroidal infusion or other such PEDs (Performance enhancing drugs) can elevate a fighter from being gifted to becoming a world champion.

In the case of Bobby Green, however, it was a simple supplement that is used by many people who work out, called DHEA. DHEA is a common supplement that helps regulate and even increase the rate of hormone production, leading to better testosterone or estrogen availability in the body.

According to Bobby Green, he bought and consumed DHEA from Walmart, listening to the advice of a doctor on YouTube. Although he did consume the supplement, he did not know that it was banned, and thus, fell prey to the “piss test”.

Despite testing positive, Green has taken responsibility into his own hands, saying that since he turned pro in 2008, he has remained clean. He said, “I don’t want any way to cheat. I do not want any edge that’s not natural over any of my opponents. I believe my skills should pay the bills.”

His statement comes at a time when the USADA has been criticized many times for being either corrupt or single minded.

A while back, the body had been singled out for furthering the UFC’s desires in a conspiracy that involved rescheduling Jon Jones’ fight in a less powerful sporting commission, so that the fighter could compete despite having failed the test. Similarly, at UFC 200, USADA was again under scrutiny when Brock Lesnar was allowed to fight Mark Hunt despite testing positive. His win was eventually overturned to a no-contest.
