Brandon Moreno spoils Kai Kara-France’s championship dreams as he grabs the interim flyweight title at the co-main event of UFC 277

Brandon Moreno vs Kai Kara-france UFC 277

The much awaited co-main event bout of UFC 277 is finally here. Two of the best flyweights in the roster, Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-france, will take on each other for the interim flyweight title. UFC 277 takes place inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The UFC Pay-per-view event will be headlined by the incredible bantamweight showdown between Juliaana Pena and Amanda Nunes later tonight.

With Deiveson Figueiredo injured since his last fight in January 2022, UFC was forced to introduce an interim belt for the flyweight division. Brandon Moreno has already won the belt once by defeating the current champion Deiveson. But, lost the belt to Figueiredo again at UFC 270. Moreno would be looking to get that belt again around his waist after tonight and would try his best to win the fight.

On the other hand, Kai Kara-france got this opportunity to fight for the title after three impressive wins in the flyweight division. He defeated Rogerio Bontorin, Cody Garbrandt and Askar Askarov in order to get this title fight. This won’t be the first time for Kara-france to face Moreno inside the octagon. Kai Kara-france fought Moreno at UFC 245 and lost via unanimous decision. At UFC 277, Kai would be finally looking forward to getting his revenge. That too when the stakes are bigger and rewards are better.

Kara-france and Moreno face off at UFC 277 press conference

Round 1

As the fight for the number one contender for the UFC flyweight title starts both the fighters look incredibly focussed as well as cautious. France initiates the action with few good leg kicks but gets countered by some solid jabs from Moreno. An unfortunate low blow from France which stops the action but it wasn’t that bad. The fight resumes as Moreno lands a few more strikes which has reddened the face of France. As the rounds come close to its end, the Mexican starts pressing and applying more pressure on France. The bell range as the first round stops with Moreno getting an upperhand.

Round 2

With the start of the third round, Moreno looks more confident and has no intentions of backing down. France on the other hand sticks to his leg kicks which seems to be one of the biggest offences of his game plan. As France throws a head kick, Moreno sees his opportunity and goes for a takedown but fails. But that hasn’t stopped the former champion from hitting much more accurate shots than his opponent in this round. Second round ended with Moreno leading the point table.

Round 3

France is focusing on the leg kicks but those haven’t really had an impact on Moreno till now. As Moreno tries to create opportunities he slips and ends up in the ground. France seizes the chance and pounces upon Moreno with some heavy shots from above. Moreno gets a cut on his right eye but manages to get back to his feet. France has more strikes than Moreno in this round as he tries to dominate the round. However, Moreno doesn’t seem to get flustered by it. He now lands a few brutal leg kicks which drops France. Moreno jumps in and gets some ground and pound and the referee stops the fight.

The fight is over and fans has a new interim flyweight champion in the name of Brandon Moreno.
