UFC rivals, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will face off again, this time in the boxing ring. They will fight this June and the news of the event is going viral on social media. Here is what happened:
Ariel Helwani recently broke the news of the upcoming rematch between Diaz and Masvidal on X. Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will fight at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. They will fight 10 rounds at 175 pounds and will be presented by Fanmio PPV. The same promotion was also responsible for the Mayweather vs. Paul fight in 2021.
Diaz and Masvidal last fought in the UFC in 2019. They fought at UFC 244 in Madison Square Garden, where Masvidal won by technical knockout in the fourth round. The fight was stopped on account of a cut above Diaz’s eye leading to profuse bleeding.
Nate Diaz’s final fight in the UFC was against Tony Ferguson. They fought in September 2022 at UFC 279 and Diaz won the fight via unanimous decision. After the fight, Diaz announced that he was taking a time-out from the promotion. Meanwhile, Jorge Masvidal retired from MMA after his loss to Gilbert Burns in April 2023. The 39-year-old Masvidal said he felt he had “lost that step” and could not move up a gear to finish Burns, and that it was time to retire.
How experienced are Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal in boxing?
Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal were two of the top contenders in the UFC. But how experienced are they in the boxing ring? Striking is a big part of their game. However, boxing comes with a whole set of its own rules as seen in the recent fight between Francis Ngannou and Anthony Joshua.
Nate Diaz has one professional boxing match under his belt, which he lost to Jake Paul last year in August. Meanwhile, Masvidal has never fought in professional boxing, but he has one fight to his name, which he won against Joseph Benjamin in 2005.
Jorge Masvidal recently made his statement on The MMA Hour where he announced that he is coming to break Nate Diaz’s face. Diaz expressed his confidence and said that Diaz has to be in the best shape of his life to have a fighting chance against him in the ring. It will be interesting to see what happens inside the boxing ring this coming June.
