Mateusz Gamrot has revealed that he will act as the substitute fighter for the lightweight title main event at UFC 294. Islam Makhachev is set to have a rematch with Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 294 on October 21 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The main card will be available on pay-per-view, while prelims will air on ESPN and ESPN+.
In their initial encounter at UFC 280, Makhachev convincingly defeated Oliveira and secured a second-round submission victory. Despite that, many fight fans believe that the Brazilian has a great chance of taking his revenge this time. But things could go south immediately if any of the fighters get injured at the last moment and for this reason, the UFC seems to have a backup plan.
Lightweight fighter Mateusz Gamrot recently revealed in an interview with Polish TV that he has been scheduled to be the substitute fighter for the main event. The fighter also took to his X account and mentioned that he would see fight fans in Abu Dhabi. “See you in Abu Dhabi ?.”
While there has been no official announcement to verify the fighter’s claim, it seems like Gamrot is pretty confident about it. Gamrot is currently on a two-fight win streak and getting a title shot before some of the biggest lightweight contenders seems like a good opportunity to leave.
Justin Gaethje will get a title shot against Islam Makhachev, confirms popular MMA manager
Justin Gaethje currently holds the title of the “Baddest Mother*** (BMF)” championship belt and has solidified his position as the leading contender in the UFC lightweight division. He achieved this by delivering an exceptional second-round head-kick knockout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 291.

Ahead of his title fight against Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev‘s manager Ali Abdelaziz, who is also the manager of Justin Gaethje, confirmed that the ‘Highlight’ will get his shot.
During an interview with The Schmo, Abdelaziz mentioned that if Islam emerges victorious, he is set to face Justin Gaethje next, as it satisfies both his and the UFC’s intentions. According to Abdelaziz, Gaethje’s impressive knockout of Dustin Poirier has undeniably earned him a well-deserved shot at the title.
