Brian Ortega recaps UFC Long Island injury

Brian Ortega was very close to earning another title shot but Yair Rodriguez got the better of him at UFC Long Island. The fight came to an end mainly because T-City injured his shoulder making it an uneventful end to the rather amazing Fight Night. Brian believes things were going his way up until his injury.

Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez faced each other in an All-Mexican UFC headliner at UFC Long Island at UBS Elmont in New York. The fight ended in a rather disappointing way as Ortega injured his arm which compromised his defense and Rodriguez managed to get a win via TKO. After his devastating loss, Ortega talks to Megan Olivi for ESPN MMA and explains his first reactions to the injury at UFC Long Island.

“Everything was going my way,” said Ortega talking to Megan Olivi. “Literally I was winning every minute of the fight and I was sticking to the game plan because I do get emotional. For one second we started hitting, we started throwing and I was like, ‘Alright, let’s start throwing’, and I went, ‘No, stick the game plan.'”

Brian believes the fight was going exactly as he wanted it to be and he was going to make use of the fight taking place on the canvas to his advantage. Unfortunately, Ortega broke his arm while landing on the ground. “The world saw I was about to show what I do best, which is grapple and take control. And the second we hit the ground, it just…my freaking arm just f***ing came out,” said T-City.

This was a historic night for the promotion and it is truly a bummer that the main event of the fight had to come to an end like this. T-City will have to go through surgery and wish for the best recovery.
